In the stage adaptation, apart from reducing roles due to cuts in the ensemble’s budget, we tried to focus on those characters who lead the movement towards Timon’s downfall and madness. All the action takes place in his private garden, until he leaves his house and Athens, on a supermarket trolley, wrapped only in a blanket. The play opens with a question of money, while three artists are hoping to get recognition and payment for their works. It ends with gold corrupting human beings: “This yellow slave / Will knit and break religions”… Timon and all the characters around him are just dark shadows, continuing the destructive and aggresive dance of life.
