Suddenly

A lone writer sits beside a pile of rubble that was once his room, his life. Suddenly, a knock is heard at the door: three desperate people arrive in search of comfort and demand that he do what he has decided never to do again: tell a story. With no other choice, the writer takes them inward into his narrative world, hoping they will understand the price he pays for the stories they demand.

Etgar Keret’s short stories spring to life through the unique theatrical language of Zvi Sahar, PuppetCinema, which combines video, puppets, and actors. Keret’s distinct writing, which weaves intensely everyday with the wild and fantastic, and the humorous with the painful, becomes a battlefield between the author and those who seek to force his stories out of him. All of this unfolds in a production that touches upon fundamental questions regarding the complex relationship between comfort and escapism, and between power and art.
