Letters to a Soldier

A Theatrical Chain Reaction with Audience Participation
By Maya Arad Yasur | Directed by Zvi Sahar

Letters to a Soldier is an artistic response to the war that began on October 7th—an ongoing conflict that continues to claim lives and leaves us all struggling to bring everyone home.

The play, composed of sentences collected in a writing workshop led by playwright Maya Arad Yasur, will be presented this evening under the direction of Zvi Sahar, artistic director of Itim Ensemble, and accompanied by musician Asaf Roth. We invite you to take part in a developing theatrical creation, that was born—and still is—from our collective pain.

The evening begins with a metronomic writing workshop—a rhythmic writing technique developed by Arad Yasur that allows participants to explore creativity and release through words, varying rhythms, and meter. Maya “conducts” a group of writers, offering fragments of sentences while the participants type rapidly. The play Letters to a Soldier originated from this method, developed with students at Seminar Hakibbutzim at the onset of the war.

In the second part of the evening, the short play Letters to a Soldier will be performed by Itim Ensemble actresses —Or Biron, Aviv Horowitz, Reut Agemi, and Yael Finkel—accompanied by musician Asaf Roth. The performance will integrate the original script with new texts written by you during the workshop, weaving together a personal narrative alongside the collective one we all share—one that continues to grow and reflect the days we are living through.

The event is free of charge, with prior registration required.
Please bring a laptop. We will provide electricity.
